My friend Kirk Wilson took these photos over Thanksgiving weekend. The photo on top is of his house with the aurora in the sky over it. These photos were taken with a regular digital camera. I think these belong in National Geographic Magazine. Wow! I am still amazed even after living here for so much time. My ds son says they are "rivers in the sky".

That is absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing them. My DH says he'd like to figure out a way to see them without going to Alaska and getting cold. We see them once in a great while down here. I can recall once in KY when I was 10, and twice in northern Arizona in the last 30 years. Not quite as colorful, though. I like your son's description.

What amazing pictures! I don't think I'd ever tire of seeing them.

We saw them once here when I was about 5, and I still remember the red color in the sky. Now the city lights would be way to bright.

Aurora or northern lights as we calls it in norway is a spectacular sight. It is so lovely. When I lived in north of norway I saw a lot of beutiful northern lighs. They were so alive with it colours from red, green, lilac, pink aso. I add a link to a norwegian page about it

They have a photo contest about the best photos of it. And yours is soooo good.

We often see the Northern Lights here and I never get tired of them. I have never seen them as bright a green as on the first photo. Once I saw them as a red circle right overhead. Do they make a sound where you live? I have heard that if you are far enough North you can hear them but often wondered if that is true.

Oh, wow! Stunning pictures! I so wanted to see the Northern Lights when we were in Alaska a few years ago but we seemed to have just missed them. Thanks for sharing those beautiful shots.

These are so beautiful. I'm sure they are even more beautiful in person with the motion. I've never seen any myself.

I saw the Northern Lights one time while driving at night a bit further north than I usually was (Chicago); I was alone and was taken completely by surprise, what a thrill that was. Lights darted and flashed for a few hours. It was like a Disney sequence in Fantasia. But it didn't look anywhere near as bright as your photos. How gorgeous.

Beautiful! That's one item that caught my eye when I started reading books on Minnesota - that the Northern Lights can actually be seen there. Hopefully I'll have an opportunity to see them in person after I move.
