I'm back!

I am so pleased to be able to post again! We moved from Glennallen to Nenana on the 15th of August. I just got my phone hooked up and internet started again. But my internet speed is slower, so we will have to see how it goes. My quilt shows are kind of choppy.

Our church family met us with open arms and a warm dinner! Our U-haul was unloaded quickly, and our beds were set up. We fell into them exhausted! The first service on Sunday went very well, mostly we gave our testimonies and introduced ourselves. There are about six families that regularly attend the church.

We have been walking about the town, meeting everyone we run across. We have enjoyed this and so has the dog! We have found a couple playgrounds, looked at the river, walked on the railroad tracks, and watched a guy go down the street on a skateboard pulled by his dog. It was foggy and cold this morning, but now the sun has burned it off. It has been in the mid 70's since we got here.

Our house is beautiful with a large porch that we have been enjoying immensely. But there are more bugs here so after awhile we get tired of swatting and go back inside. There are four bedrooms (one is my dh's office), one bathroom, a kitchen and an open living/dining room. The inside walls are big wood logs and the house has nice large easy open windows. I haven't put up any quilts yet, but have permission from the landlord.

I have half the bedroom as my quilt space. One wall under the light, next to the window, and half the closet space. All my quilt books are in boxes, I don't have a bookshelf yet. I have a great cutting space, a board across some storage tubs, just the right height. I would really like to make a design wall, but I will have to figure out just how I want it. I have been invited to the local quilt meeting, twice a month, and I can't wait to attend. My landlady invited me!

Welcome back! It always seems to take a bit to settle into a new home, but you seem to be doing it fairly fast.

It sounds like a wonderful place (except for the bugs!) Is it going to be really harsh in the winter?

Rebecca, it sounds wonderful! :) I"m glad you're settled in and able to play with fabric again. Your church sounds like it's a close group and that's nice.

I just started reading blogs and ran across yours. Reading about your new home in Nenana really made me yearn to be back in Alaska.
Our daughter lived in Fairbanks from August 2005 through Aug. 2006 and I got to visit for a week to 3 weeks at a time 5 different times while she lived there. We saw lots of the state , including Nenana, and I loved it even in the winter! Someday I'll visit again.
Good luck in your new home.
